SG Iron (Ductile Iron) Casting in Pakistan

Lahore Casting pours SG Iron (Ductile Iron) (400/18, 500/7, 600/3) to order at Mominpura Road, Lahore, Pakistan, by sand casting from 1 kg to 500 kg. Cast iron in which the graphite is formed into spheres rather than flakes, so it bends before it breaks. It has most of grey iron's castability with a large fraction of steel's toughness. Every heat is checked on an OES spectrometer before pouring and a material test certificate is issued on request.

Grades and properties

Grades poured400/18, 500/7, 600/3
Grade meaning500/7 means 500 MPa tensile, 7% elongation
Tensile strength400-600 MPa depending on grade
Elongation3-18% - grey iron gives essentially none
TreatmentMagnesium treated in the ladle, checked on the spectrometer every heat

When to choose it

Use SG Iron when: A part that would crack in grey iron: housings under pressure, hubs, brackets, pipe fittings, anything that takes a shock.

Choose something else when: Damping matters more than toughness - a machine bed or a pulley is better in grey iron.

Castings poured in SG Iron

24 of the 40 standard castings are available in SG Iron. Any of them can also be poured to your own drawing.
